Catching Up

New year. We had a fantastic time in Colorado for Christmas. We got lots of snow and good family time. Before heading out there, we got to see another picture of our baby and were excited to find out we should be expecting a girl! So, we are slowly readying ourselves for the arrival of our daughter in April :) There was a fantastic snowstorm on Christmas morning. We made our way from the Hursts (south of Denver) up to my parents (north of Denver). I-25 was virtually empty - guess holiday snow keeps some folks inside!

Our visit at my parents included some great time looking over old pictures. I suppose having a child has made me a little nostalgic and interested in my own background. Okay, I confess, I'm a bit of a genealogy geek, but it's a great connection with my grandmother and just interesting to seee where we come from and what our families have done and where they've been. But, this quest just began as a search for my baby pictures and then my parents' baby pictures. We did the same with Brad's parents - it will be fun to see who the little one takes after.

Later in our trip, we went back up to the mountains to the Lewis' house in Keystone. It was great to see everyone up there, enjoy some great Mexican train dominoes, more beautiful snow. The day we left, it was snowing a bit, we decided to stop for food in Silverthorn and get on our way. It's a good thing we did! We got on the highway and spent the next hour going about 3 miles. It took us a total of 5 hours to get back - a trip that took 2 hours in good weather!

I got to experience my first whiteout - it was insane, but Brad took great care of our family and delivered us safely back to the Denver area.

When we returned to the DC area, we spent New Years Eve playing games with the Shius & the soon "to-be" Stevensons. At last, our new couch arrived! So, we found a new home for our old couch and welcomed the new one. We've enjoyed the new couch - a couple of good movies and we discovered today that it is VERY kid friendly.

Paul came to visit in January. It's been too many months since we've seen him, but it was great to have a chance to hang out for a while. We tried out a few restaurants including Los Tios in Del Ray and Bugsy's Pizza in Old Town. He was our first visitor to sleep on our new couch. It's evidently pretty comfortable, although Paul, now a true Floridian was cold all weekend in our frigid northern temps! What happened to that Colorado weathered guy??

The end of January brought Grandma Kane's 90th birthday! It's incredible to think about being alive in 61 years - in 2069 - what will life be like then?? Anyway, it was a great celebration with friends and family alike. She was definitely queen for the day!

Finally, last week, our friends Brad & Emily welcomed their son, Xander to the world. Welcome little one - we can't wait to meet you!
