We have a little confusion in our house. Halloween sounds a lot like "Ballerina" to a little girl who is a little obsessed with this video (you need to scroll to 2:20 in the clip). Last week we were walking around our neighborhood and people had decorated bushes with orange lights - much like Christmas - so Ashley was saying "Christmas tree" whenever we passed one. So, I dutifully corrected her, saying this is Halloween, not Christmas. BUT, she heard ballerina - so at the next tree, she exclaimed "BALLERINA!". Of course, I'm looking for a ballerina, but can't find what she's talking about until she points at the tree. Of course, Halloween sounds like ballerina...and I may have our costume idea for next year! In the interim, this video will have to do as a representation of our little ballerina!
So, in the spirit of Halloween, we did head out to visit friends last night. We were heading to a friends' house and we weren't really convinced we wanted to trick or treat. We approached one corner where 4 families were out visiting with each other and they all scattered as we approached to go find their bowls of candy. We decided to stop. We sent Ashley to the first bowl and instructed her to say "trick or treat" and see if she got anything in her bag. Well, she bounded back to us, delighted at the treat that she promptly tried to take from her bag to eat. Off she went, ready to try the next bowl and then the next. As we moved on, she cried, "more trick or treat." So, around we went with our delighted trick or treater. Once we got home, we let her have a little bit of one treat before dinner. After all, these were her treats! During dinner, a friend came to visit and after a few minutes, Ashley went back in the house and reappeared at the door with one of our treats we were handing out - "trick or treat" she said. I think it was a success!
PS - Piper slept the whole time :)
